The Book
My book Biblical Servanthood: The Lifestyle and Landscape of Christian Service is self-published by Amazon's CreateSpace label and is available at Amazon.com.
Biblical Servanthood is an obsession of mine, not because I fully understand it nor because I am a good example. Rather it is because I am neither an expert nor an example. I struggle with serving every time and everyday. I believe that servanthood plays a major part in both worship, evangelism, and sanctification for every Christian. Unfortunately, with that conviction I could see how my life and attitude did not hold to that ideal and still does not in some major areas. So I wrote the book and this blog to remind and encourage me. I write to myself because I stink at being consistent with this and I hope others may benefit from my struggling and my preaching and questioning to myself. Lastly most if not all of the resources I looked into about servanthood were more focused on how servanthood enhanced leadership, as if serving were a mere precursor to leading. I started this website for me because I needed a cross-centered approach to servanthood not leadership.

The book was written over a span of 3 years and came about over my own struggles with my own attitude for serving both in and out of the local church while helping to plant a church in Texas. Most of the early basis for the chapters were a result of meetings the sunday service teams (i.e. ushers, setup, book table, hospitality) had in preparation and during the first 2 years of the church. We had a monthly leaders meeting to go over administrative action items and discuss issues pertaining to the sunday service. However we would also have a 1hr or so time of teaching and discussion on the Biblical application to servanthood because we felt that our church's service teams were more than precursors to worship but rather the tasks they were performing were worship in and of themselves. We wanted to produce a church who saw serving as an opportunity to worship and glorify God but to do this however we need to equip the people that served with not only the tools to serve but provide and apply the Gospel to the tasks as well. Many of chapters and ideas came from those meetings, which I had the privilege of leading and teaching. Here are some of the Chapter headings,
Biblical Servanthood is:
Early on I realized there was a great need for a cross-centered approach to servanthood and having searched in vain for resources to help us, I decided to write my own resource using the teachings and meetings we had to serve a basis. I received tons of help from my pastors Pete Payne and Craig Cabaniss, with especially heroic efforts from Pete reading and giving me comments on every version. Also I received lots of tips and advice and feedback from friend and author Elyse Fitzpatrick. Also editor Kevin Meath, Cross-Centered Life by CJ Mahaney and When Sinner's Say I do by Dave Harvey helped to me focus and rearranged the book.
If you have an interest or struggle with Biblical Servanthood please check my book and may God use it in your life and worhsip in the same way he did in mine. If you decide to buy and read it please feel free to provide me with your honest feedback and constructive criticism. My desire is that the book serve as as pointer to the Cross of Christ for as many people as God desires it to be for.
